Dr Rajay Narain

Founder and Director of Global Health Alliance UK
Cardiologist, St. George’s University Hospital, London

Dr. Narain is the founder and director of Global Health Alliance UK. He works as a cardiologist at St. George’s University Hospital, London. He is the lead for MRCP exam teaching programs at various UK hospitals. He also set up India’s first Royal College of Physicians, London, endorsed MRCP PACES course. Dr. Narain was instrumental in designing the Foundation training program for junior doctors in the West Midlands, UK.

He has set up the UK’s first Cardio Metabolic Clinic in the NHS to care for high-risk patients. Dr. Narain is a member of the EAPCI, EAPCR, and a council member for Stroke at the European Society of Cardiology. He was appointed as a working group member for Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases at the European Society of Cardiology and is a founder member of the International Development Group of the NHS, UK, for his contributions to global health.

Additionally, Dr. Narain serves as an advisor to many government and private medical institutions in India. He has presented at several national and international conferences and has contributed to publications and research projects in cardiology, which have been featured in medical journals.

Dr Mimi Chen

Dr. Mimi Chen aims to increase awareness of diabetes management across different teams to ensure continuity in clinical care for diabetes patients, particularly those admitted for surgery. She develops fast-track referral pathways and individualized guidelines for better diabetes management for surgical patients. She also leads the peri-operative diabetes initiative, collaborating with anesthetists and surgeons to improve diabetes care.

Dr. Chen is a consultant endocrinologist and an honorary senior lecturer at St. George’s, London. She completed a PhD at the University of Bristol, focusing on bariatric surgery’s effects on Type 2 diabetes and pancreatic function in patients with morbid obesity. She has published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and contributed to book chapters on Type 2 diabetes and obesity management.

At St. George’s, she leads the Medical Obesity Service, expanding it to include multidisciplinary teams for medical and surgical obesity services. She optimizes care for high-risk pre-operative patients with morbid obesity and is actively involved in clinical research, collaborating with principal investigators from leading UK universities. Her team is among the top recruiters for ongoing diabetes clinical studies.

Prof Derek Connelly

Professor Derek Connolly is a consultant interventional cardiologist and the Director of Research and Development at Birmingham City Hospital. He also serves as an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK.

He trained at Cambridge, London, Edinburgh, and San Diego, where he was a Carnegie Scholar. He holds a first-class degree in pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh, where he received the Brunton medal and Keasbey Bursary. His PhD in molecular cardiology is from the University of Cambridge.

Prof. Connolly is the chief or primary investigator for numerous large trials in cardiovascular medicine. He developed one of the UK’s first primary angioplasty programs and one of the country’s largest cardiac CT programs.

Dr. Yassir Javaid

FRCP, GPwSI Cardiology

Dr. Javaid qualified from Cambridge University (MA FRCGP FRCP) and completed his GP VTS training in Northampton. He has an interest in cardiology and echocardiography and was a clinical lead in the Northamptonshire Community Cardiology service, which had a focus on patients with heart failure and valve disease.

He was named Pulse “GP of the Year” in 2015 for his work in reducing stroke emergency admissions in the East Midlands. He is also a council member of the British Heart Valve Society, accredited member of the British Society of Echocardiography and on the editorial board for the British Journal of Cardiology.
